Adam and Eve Descend

Adam and Eve descended to Earth. They sought forgiveness and repented. Allah's mercy encompassed them. He told them the Earth was their original home: they would live upon it, die upon it, and be brought forth from it on the Day of Resurrection.

The Descent Was Not a Punishment

Some believe Adam's sin expelled us from Paradise. But when Allah intended to create Adam, He told the angels:

«إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً»

"Indeed, I will make upon the Earth a khalifah." (Al-Baqarah 2:30)

He did not say: "I will make in Paradise a khalifah." The Earth was always the intended destination.

The descent was a descent of honor (hubut karamah), not humiliation. The experience of Paradise taught Adam and his descendants that Shaytan drove them out, and the path back to Paradise is through obedience to Allah.
