The days of Tashriq at Mina
After Tawaf al-Ifadah, return to Mina for the nights of the 11th and 12th.
Each day: 3 jamarat x 7 pebbles = 21 pebbles, "Allahu akbar" with each. Walking to the jamarat is best; riding is allowed.
Leaving on the 12th or staying to the 13th
Stone on the 12th and leave Mina before sunset. If the sun sets while still in Mina, stay for the 13th (Risalah).
Spend the night of the 13th in Mina and stone the three jamarat that afternoon in the same way.
Tawaf al-Wada'
Before leaving Makkah for home: seven circuits around the Ka'bah, the last thing done in Makkah.
Women in menses or postnatal bleeding do not owe it (Ibn 'Uthaymeen). The class slides count it among the obligations; in the Maliki school it is recommended (Risalah).
On leaving it is recommended to say: "Ayibuna, ta'ibuna, 'abiduna, li-rabbina hamidun, sadaqallahu wa'dah, wa nasara 'abdah, wa hazamal-ahzaba wahdah": returning, repenting, worshipping, praising our Lord. Allah fulfilled His promise, gave victory to His servant and defeated the allies alone (Risalah).
Visiting the Prophet's Masjid
The intention of the journey is to visit and pray in the Prophet's Masjid, not to travel to the grave. While there, one visits the grave and gives salam (Ibn 'Uthaymeen).
- Pray in Masjid Quba' in a state of purity.
- Visit al-Baqi': salam to 'Uthman and the Muslims buried there.
- Visit Uhud: salam to Hamzah and the martyrs, and du'a for their forgiveness and mercy.
Ibn 'Uthaymeen. The visit is not part of Hajj; it can be before or after.
Key points
- 11th-12th: stone after midday: small, middle, 'Aqabah; du'a after the first two.
- Leave on the 12th before sunset, or stay to the 13th (better).
- Tawaf al-Wada' is the last act in Makkah; excused for menstruating women.
- Travel to pray in the Prophet's Masjid; give salam at the grave while there.
