There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His the praise, and He is able to do all things."The du'a of the Prophet ﷺ at 'Arafah; Ibn 'Uthaymeen

The best du'a is the du'a of the day of 'Arafah, so spend the end of the day deep in supplication. If tired, talk with companions about something beneficial or read about Allah's grace, to strengthen hope, then return to du'a (Ibn 'Uthaymeen).

"Allah boasts of the people of 'Arafah to the people of the heavens, saying: Look at My servants, they have come to Me dishevelled and dusty."Cited by an-Nawawi; Women and Hajj
  • All of 'Arafah is a place of standing, except the valley of 'Uranah. Climbing the Mount of Mercy is not required (Risalah).
  • Do not fast on this day, to be strong in worship (Risalah).

The pillar of standing in the Maliki school is being present in 'Arafah for part of the night after sunset; standing after midday is obligatory and is made up with a sacrifice if missed (Risalah).

Key points

  • Four pillars: ihram, 'Arafah, Tawaf al-Ifadah, Sa'y. Seven obligations, made up with a sacrifice.
  • 8th: ihram for Hajj, five prayers at Mina, shortened but not combined.
  • 9th: 'Arafah after sunrise; Dhuhr and 'Asr combined and shortened; du'a until sunset.
